As I predicted in my BSST post, I’m missing out due to snow. That’s about 18 inches more than the 3.5 feet we already had. So now we have about 5 feet of snow. It will definitely be April or maybe May until I see grass again.

Thrive Cosmetics Empowermate Precision Lipstick Crayon
During Valentine’s Day week, Thrive Cosmetics was having a free shipping promo, so I thought it would be a good time to re-order one of my favorites Thrive Defying Gravity Eye Lifting Cream. While I was on their site, I noticed that their lipstick crayon in the shade, Dusty Rose called Kaisa, was on sale for $9. I added it to my cart.

It’s been a tough winter for my lips. Despite using a lot of lip hydrators they have become drier than usual. I’ve found that many, in fact most, lipsticks dry out my lips. As a result, I rarely wear lipstick. I think it is the pigments within the lipstick formula that dry out my lips. Some lipsticks like the one I bought from Tarte about a decade ago, my Wayne Goss lipstick, an old lipstick from Rimmel, some Revlon lipsticks, and my RMS light lipsticks don’t really dry out my lips. So if I want to apply other lipsticks, I make sure to hydrate my lips first. Actually, I usually hydrate my lips before applying any lipstick this winter. Spring, where are you?
Thrive Precision Lipstick Crayon Empowermatte It’s very good. To be honest, I didn’t pay attention to the “EmpowerMate” sub-title when I bought it. I generally stay away from matte lipsticks. But now I have it, so that’s how it works with my dry lips.

It’s creamy initially, and it glides on like a semi-oil-based crayon. But it stays put and does not end up in my lip lines. As long as I don’t eat oily food, the color stays put for hours because it’s formulated with “semi-permanent micro-pigments”, which give a velvety matte finish to the lips.
In terms of comfort, it is quite comfortable even with my dry lips. The initial creaminess of the formula goes away after a few minutes. The lipstick is very light and I often forget I am wearing it. After an hour or two, my lips start feeling dry. Applying a hydrating balm on top makes my lips feel better.
How, dusty rose or pink, is lovely. It looks great in the swatch on my arm.

However, my lip color is so dark that I find that Kaisa doesn’t appear as dark on my lips as I would like. In fact, it makes my lips look much lighter than they actually are.

Still, for $9, I’m glad I bought it. Thrive Cosmetics Empowermate Precision Lipstick Crayon Comes in 17 beautiful shades. Its regular price is $28 and is 1.2 grams/0.042 ounces in a twist up tube.
If you enjoy wearing matte lipsticks, I think this Velvet Matte is worth considering as it is long lasting and quite comfortable for me too.
