Laurie Welch
LOCK HAVEN – Alzheimer’s and Caregiver Support Group meeting Tuesday, Feb. 10 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Covenant United Methodist Church, 44 W. Will be on Main St., Lock Haven. Laurie Welch from Penn State Extension will be the guest presenter on “Building Brain Healthy Habits.”
The US POINTER, a two-year clinical trial, found that simultaneously targeting risk factors for cognitive decline – including regular physical activity, a brain-healthy diet, cognitive and social engagement, and health monitoring – can improve brain function in older adults.
The support group is sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association and hosted by Covenant United Methodist Church and focuses on caregivers. But this session is open to the general public or anyone who is interested in improving their brain health. This program helps participants understand science-backed habits that support lifelong brain health and create a customized action plan for healthy brain habits.
The Penn State Extension office and the Alzheimer’s Association have partnered to educate the public on this and other Alzheimer’s-related topics. For more information about a local support group meeting, call support group facilitator Fran Decker, MSW, at 570-748-4302 or 570-263-2084.
