Westfield – With New Year’s resolutions still fresh in mind, the Greater Westfield Chamber of Commerce invites residents and interested members of the public to focus on wellness at its inaugural Health and Wellness Expo on Feb. 18 at Westfield River Elementary School.
Held on Wednesday, Feb. 18 from 4-7 p.m., the expo will feature tables from various chamber businesses, and provide attendees with advice, information and resources – and maybe even a few promotional giveaways.
“From home health services to fitness instructors to financial advisors, we have businesses that will provide attendees with a wealth of information and resources,” said Amanda Waterfield, executive director of the chamber.
The idea for the expo, which is free to attend, came from a conversation with chamber member Harleen Simmons, owner of All Natural Reiki of Waterfield.
Waterfield said she was at a similar event recently and saw how popular it was, not only for people seeking health and wellness information, but also for the businesses and organizations that participated.
Simmons said the two were looking to offer something different to area residents and decided to organize an event focusing on health and wellness, to which Waterfield agreed.
“We said, ‘Let’s do it in Westfield,'” Waterfield said.
Simmons had another reason.
“We live in a turbulent world and we need prosperity,” he said.
They came up with an idea that was focused on attracting people who were looking for that information, but broad enough to attract a variety of businesses not typically associated with health and wellness – like Cambridge Credit Counseling, an event sponsor with Baystate Health, and the Friends of the Columbia Greenway Rail Trail.
Asked why the elementary school was being used for the expo, Waterfield said it should attract people to the expo who haven’t had a chance to visit the new school that opened last year.
“With the February holidays, it seemed like a perfect fit,” he said.
Simmons said having it at the school will give vendors like him some quiet space to showcase their services in a classroom where peace is important.
Schools are closed for students across the state from February 16-20.
