Welcome September: A mini new year
Itβs already September! And itβs Monday! Weird how just that combo feels like hitting reset.
I keep thinking September is a mini new year, sometimes even more than January. January is cold, and everyoneβs hungover (literally or emotionally). September means coziness, perfect temperature, the first hoodie you pull over your head without sweating, and a reminder that the year isnβt over yet. Thereβs still time to do things, to change things.
Also, I donβt know why, but I feel less alone in September. Maybe because the season itself nudges us inward, toward coziness, toward each other.
And because it feels like such a fresh start, Iβve been thinking about the little things I want to begin (or begin again) this month. Sharing them here in case they inspire you too:
-
Update my goalsβjust a check-in, not a total overhaul. I want to circle the ones that still matter and let go of the ones that donβt.
-
Declutter one small spot a week. A drawer, a folder, a wardrobe, my desk. I love decluttering, and I feel more inspired in the transition seasons.
-
Work outside the house more. CafΓ©s, coworking spaces, anywhere with people around. My job is lonely, and I crave that background buzz sometimes.
-
Start doing pilates again. Iβve let it slip, and I miss how grounded and strong it made me feel. September feels like the perfect time to come back to it.
-
Make time for hobbies. Reading especially. I want more nights where I curl up with a book instead of scrolling until my brain feels fried.
-
Take more walks. Especially in the early evening when the light looks like September.
-
Cook something cozy. Soups, stews, or anything that makes the kitchen smell like comfort.
-
Build a September playlist. Music that feels like falling leaves and golden skies.
-
Plan something fun.Β Maybe a day out doing something fun with a friend, a weekend trip, or a pottery class, something small but special to look forward to.
-
Take more photos. Photos of everyday little things that feel like September.
- Start an online course Iβve been putting off. Thereβs one Iβve wanted to do for ages, and September feels like the perfect time to finally dive in.
- Explore new cafΓ©s and spots nearby. I want to finally check out the little places I always walk past but never step into.
So thatβs what Iβm holding onto: the chance to begin again, in small and meaningful ways. If youβre feeling the September energy too, maybe pick one little thing for yourself. Light a candle, go for a walk, open a new book. Let it be your own mini new year.
β¨ Iβd love to know, whatβs something youβd like to start (or restart) this month, or before the year ends?
